My Info

Howdy! My name is Gwen Mercer. I’m a 26 year old St. Louis native that has just recently moved back to the city.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tennessee Technological University and am currently pursuing a professional degree to become a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. I am passionate about working to help people but was unable to find work within my base of expertise that paid enough to live on, which is why I’ve moved on to Physical Therapy.
My psychology background has mainly focused on APA-guided research dealing with constructing scales for predicting pedophilic behavior, as well as my thesis on determining predictors for positive and negative attitudes towards law enforcement. All of my research has been conducted within APA guidelines and following my university IRB’s policies and procedures on ethical conduct and participant consent. The rest of my psychology background focused on statistics, probability, and experimental psychology. Besides that, I’ve studied the DSM-IV-TR and am familiar with clinical psychology practices and diagnoses. I have practical experience in counseling and would someday love to pursue a career developing new treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Apart from psychology and pt, my other big passion has always been art. I’ve been drawing and designing clothes since age four. After nearly finishing a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, I changed my major to psychology because I found the career prospects ultimately more fulfilling. I am still involved in the art world, and have been a practicing ‘fine art photographer’ for the past ten years. I have been hired to shoot weddings, engagement photos, portraits, nudes, and personal pieces. Besides photography, I enjoy film-making, ceramics, screen printing, fibers, and music. Most recently my friend Calum Wright and I have undertaken a new business venture in the Industrial Design world. Our online store opens in September of this year.

Questions and Comments always open and welcome.
